The
Feast of Tabernacles
The
spiritual intent or the rationale for observing this festival is to worship the
King of kings and the Lord of hosts a title that was assigned to Jesus Christ
from His birth, because the prophet Isaiah prophesied of the arrival of the
King of kings by saying; “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace.”
“Of
the increase of His government and peace there will be no end, upon the throne of
David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and
justice from that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts
will perform this” (Isaiah 9:6-7).
As the scripture clearly shows the kingship of
Jesus Christ began from the time of His birth because when the wise men from the
East came to Jerusalem they said; "Where is He who has been born King of
the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him” (Matthew
2:2).
Appearing
before Pilate Jesus was asked; “Are You a king then?" Jesus answered,
"You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born and for this
cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth.
Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice” (John 18:37).
The
Feast of Tabernacles as one can clearly see is intertwined and associated with the
honoring and worshiping of the King of
kings and Lord of hosts, for thus it is written: “And it shall come to pass
that everyone who is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall
go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the
Feast of Tabernacles. And it shall be that whichever of the families of the
earth do not come up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, on
them there will be no rain. If the family of Egypt will not come up and enter
in, they shall have no rain; they shall receive the plague with which the LORD
strikes the nations who do not come up to keep the Feast of Tabernacles. This
shall be the punishment of Egypt and the punishment of all the nations that do
not come up to keep the Feast of Tabernacles” (Zechariah
14:16-19).
Therefore,
without any shadow of doubt one can see clearly that, the celebration of the
Feast of Tabernacles and the worship of the King of kings and the Lord of hosts
are synonymous. When one celebrates the Feast of Tabernacles they are in effect
worshiping the King of kings and Lord of hosts, and to honor and worship the
King of kings and Lord of hosts one does that by observing and celebrating the
Feast of Tabernacles.
I therefore beg to ask the question, why have we who professed to be believers in Jesus Christ disdain and blatantly reject this festival and instead, observing the pagan festival of Christmas to honor the birth of Jesus Christ? Is this not worshiping God in vain and provoking Him to jealousy?
The feast of Tabernacles therefore commemorates the arrival of Jesus Christ the King of kings and the Lord of hosts to the earth. The day the Word became flesh and tabernacle among us and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
This festival also foreshadows the millennial reign of Jesus Christ when He
will establish His kingdom on earth.
God
has overlooked these times of ignorance but now commands all men everywhere to
repent.
With
brotherly love
Lucius
Joseph
