The sixth spiritual weapon we have in our arsenal to help us fight our spiritual battles is that of :
• The sword of the Spirit
The sword of the Spirit as the
scripture clearly points out is the word of God which is living and powerful,
and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and
spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and
intents of the heart: And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all
things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account"
(Hebrews 4:12-13).
And to the disciples Jesus Christ
gave power and authority saying; "Behold, I give you the authority to
trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and
nothing shall by any means hurt you. Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that
the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are
written in heaven" (Luke
10:19-20).
Jesus Christ also gave authority to
all those who believe in Him saying: And these signs will follow those who
believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new
tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will
by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will
recover" (Mark
16:17-18).
He also rebuked His disciples for
their lack of faith when they could not heal an epileptic and He said to them;
“O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long
shall I bear with you? Bring him here to Me." And Jesus rebuked the demon,
and it came out of him; and the child was cured from that very hour. Then the
disciples came to Jesus privately and said, "Why could we not cast it
out?" So Jesus said to them, " Because of your unbelief; for
assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to
this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be
impossible for you. However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting" (Matthew 17:17-21).
On another occasion when the
disciples noticed that the fig tree that Jesus Christ cursed for not having
fruit was withered they said to Him "Rabbi, look! The fig tree which You
cursed has withered away." Jesus' reply was, "Have faith in God. For
assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'Be removed and be cast
into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things
he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. Therefore I say to you,
whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you
will have them" (Matthew
21:21-22; Mark 11:21-24).
I therefore beg to ask the question,
what happen to all these promises that Jesus Christ gave to all those who
believe in Him, are they null and void? Are they weaker? Powerless and inferior
to science and the wisdom of men, so as to necessitate placing our faith in the
wisdom of men than in the power of God! If this is our perspective of life it
is blasphemous and idolatrous to call ourselves believers.
To be continued
With brotherly love
