The Saints terms of covenant by sacrifice (part three)

So far we have covered two of the four terms of the covenant by sacrifice which the saints have covenanted to offer to the Lord. The first being Jesus Christ, by putting Him first in everything and by offering Him to the Father as the food for the Lord's offerings,

The second term of the covenant by sacrifice is the effective fervent prayer of the saints , now we come to the third term of the covenant by sacrifice which is that of:

3. Worship

What have the saints covenanted with the Father by sacrifice with regards to worship? The terms of the covenant by sacrifice with regards to worship is seven folds and they are as follows:

  1. It must be in spirit

The will of the Father with regards to worship is that, it must be done in spirit because, the admonition is, “But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth" (John 4:23-24).

Worshiping God in spirit denotes that one does not need any physical object to assist him/her in their worship of God for we have been warned saying; “Take careful heed to yourselves, for you saw no form when the LORD spoke to you at Horeb out of the midst of the fire, lest you act corruptly and make for yourselves a carved image in the form of any figure: the likeness of male or female, the likeness of any animal that is on the earth or the likeness of any winged bird that flies in the air, the likeness of anything that creeps on the ground or the likeness of any fish that is in the water beneath the earth.’

“And take heed, lest you lift your eyes to heaven, and when you see the sun, the moon, and the stars, all the host of heaven, you feel driven to worship them and serve them, which the LORD your God has given to all the peoples under the whole heaven as a heritage” (Deuteronomy 4:15-19).

Worshiping God in spirit also denotes worshiping God according to His word, for thus says the Lord; “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life” (John 6:63).

Worshiping God in spirit is also extended to the rationale and objective for worship which should not be by compulsion, coercion or because of strict observance due to the letter of the law, but rather, it should be from one’s own volition as we have been admonished saying; “One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike. Let each be fully convinced in his own mind. He who observes the day, observes it to the Lord; and he who does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it” (Romans 14:5-6).

Therefore, in a nutshell, worshiping God in spirit denotes not having any physical object in mind when worshiping in order to stimulate, generate or reflect the presence of God, it must be done in sincerity from one’s own volition, from the heart and not by command, compulsion or coercion.
