3. Ambassadors for Christ
The third important work we were
ordained to perform even before the foundation of the world is to be entrusted
with the ministry of reconciliation. For it is written; "Now all things
are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has
given us the ministry of reconciliation, that is, that God was in Christ
reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and
has committed to us the word of reconciliation.
Now then, we are ambassadors for
Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ's
behalf, be reconciled to God. For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us,
that we might become the righteousness of God in Him" (2Corinthians
5:18-21).
Also, as a kingdom of priests it
is also imperative that, “the lips of a priest should keep knowledge, and
people should seek the law from his mouth without partiality; for he is the
messenger of the LORD of hosts” (Malachi 2:7).
The main objective of God's grace
is for us to become the righteousness of God in Jesus Christ, and this we attain
by imitating the life of Jesus Christ as we have been duly admonished saying; “For
to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an
example, that you should follow His steps: Who committed no sin, nor was deceit
found in His mouth; who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He
suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges
righteously; who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we,
having died to sins, might live for righteousness --- by whose stripes you were
healed” (1
Peter 2:21-24).
And therefore, since Christ suffered for us in
the flesh, we are to arm ourselves also with the same mind, for he who has
suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, that he no longer should live the
rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God. For
we have spent enough of our past lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles ---
when we walked in lewdness, lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties,
and abominable idolatries: In regard to these, they think it strange that we do
not run with them in the same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of us” (1Peter
4:1-4).
Therefore, regardless of what is transpiring around us we are representatives and ambassadors of the kingdom of God and our duty is to comply with the laws and living standards that are in compliance with that of the kingdom of God, and we should not forget that, we are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are neither of the night nor of darkness and the crux of the matter is, there is a huge disparity between the life style of the citizens of the kingdom of light and that of the kingdom of darkness and it should be visible and transparent so that everyone can clearly see without being judgmental.
