One thing I have observed with
modern day Christianity is that, they do not take the way of life in the spirit
literally; they merely have some sort of sanctimonious sentimentalism or treat
practical things as metaphors or figure of speech. Let us look at some basic
teachings that modern Christians fail to practice literally.
- Jesus
Christ in no uncertain terms said; “I am the bread of life.”
- “Your
fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and are dead. This is the bread
which comes down from heaven that one may eat of it and not die.
- I am the living bread which came down
from heaven.
- If anyone eats of this bread, he will
live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall
give for the life of the world." (John 6:48-51).
- “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless you
eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in
you.
- Whoever
eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him
up at the last day. For My flesh is food indeed, and My blood is drink
indeed.
- He
who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him.
- As
the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who
feeds on Me will live because of Me.
- This
is the bread which came down from heaven --- not as your fathers ate the
manna, and are dead. He who eats this bread will live forever" (John
6:53-58).
- On
another occasion the Lord said to His disciples; “I am the way, the truth,
and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6).
- Then
the apostle Paul clarified this statement by saying; “Therefore, brethren,
having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and
living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His
flesh, and having a High Priest over the house of God, let us draw near
with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled
from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water” (Hebrews
10:19-22).
- Then
the apostle John admonished us by saying; “.This is the message which we
have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no
darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in
darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the
light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the
blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin” (1John 1:5-7).
And so the logical question is,
when and how the blood of Jesus Christ does cleanses us from all sin so as to
have fellowship with one another and with the Father and the Son? Is there a
protocol and an appointed time?
