5. Jesus Christ took on flesh in order to become a Faithful and Merciful High Priest.
The
fifth reason why Jesus Christ took on flesh was for Him to become a faithful
and merciful High Priest and so we have been duly admonished saying:
"Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His brethren, that He
might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to
make propitiation for the sins of the people.: For in that He Himself has
suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted" (Hebrews
2:17-18).
And
the Lord said, "Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God." He takes
away the first that He may establish the second. By that will we have been
sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all: And
every priest stands ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices,
which can never take away sins: But this Man, after He had offered one
sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, from that time
waiting till His enemies are made His footstool" (Hebrews 10:9-13).
But
now, with the reformation we are told that, "Christ came as High Priest of
the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made
with hands, that is, not of this creation. Not with the blood of goats and
calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all,
having obtained eternal redemption. For if the blood of bulls and goats and the
ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the
flesh, how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit
offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to
serve the living God?” (Hebrews 9:11-14).
In
order for one to have any fellowship or connection with the Father it can only
be through Jesus Christ because, “there is one God and one Mediator between God
and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be
testified in due time:” And hence the reason why Jesus quite unequivocally
said; “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except
through Me” (1Timothy 2:5-6; John 14:6).
So
how then can we have fellowship with the Father through the One and only
Mediator Jesus Christ? Well, according to the apostle John; “This is the
message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and
in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and
walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the
light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood
of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin” (1John 1:5-7).
The
apostle Paul also made it abundantly clear as to how can we have access to the
throne of grace when he wrote; “Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter
the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He consecrated
for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, and having a High Priest over the
house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith,
having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with
pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for
He who promised is faithful” (Hebrews 10: 19-23).
It
is through the partaking of the body and blood of Jesus Christ and having Jesus
Christ as our High Priest officiating and interceding on our behalf that we
have access to the throne of grace and have fellowship with the Father and with
one another.
