Did Christ fulfill His
Messianic Sign?
With
all the babble of confusion that is plaguing the Christian community and
causing so many devout and sincere believers to worship the Lord in vain, the
logical question is, did Jesus Christ fulfill His messianic sign precisely as
He foretold?
The
unequivocal answer is yes! He knew precisely how many hours that constitute a
day and a night; because, when He was told that Lazarus, the one whom He loved
was sick, He replied, “This sickness will not end in death. No, it is God’s
glory so that God’s Son may be glorified through it.” Then He said to His
disciples, “Let us go back to Judea.” But His disciples replied, “Rabbi, a
short while ago the Jews tried to stone you, and you are going back there?
Jesus
answered, “Are there not twelve hours in daylight? A man who walks by day will
not stumble, for he sees by this world’s light. It is when he walks by night
that he stumbles, for he has no light” (John 11:4-10).
In
this context one has to conclude that, when Jesus said that He was going to
spend three days and three nights in the heart of the earth, He literally meant
seventy-two (72) hours, and not part of a day as a day, as it is commonly
taught.
Jesus
Christ on the night preceding the Jewish Passover came together with His
disciples and said to them, "With
fervent desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer;
for I say to you, I will no longer eat of it until it is fulfilled in the
kingdom of God" (Luke 22:15-16).
He ate the Passover earlier with
His disciples because He as the real Passover had to die on the day of the Passover;
He died at the ninth hour which is three O'clock in the afternoon. By the time
the rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, went to Pilate and asked for the
body of Jesus and was granted permission, bought fine linen, took Him down,
and wrapped Him in the linen. And he laid Him in a tomb which had been hewn out
of the rock, and rolled a stone against the door of the tomb; it was already
late in the evening.
The following day was a Sabbath
which was the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, everybody rested on
that day, because it was a High Day Sabbath. The following day (the day after the High day Sabbath), the women who
had come with Him from Galilee bought and prepared spices and fragrant oils. And they again rested on the Sabbath according to the commandment. (See Luke 23:54-56).
Therefore, it is conclusive that
Jesus Christ was crucified on a Wednesday, was placed in the tomb late in the
evening, Thursday was the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, a high
day Sabbath no body worked everyone rested, on Friday the women bought and prepared the spices
to anoint the body of Jesus, They again rested on the Sabbath (Saturday) according to the commandment, and before it began to dawn towards the first day of the week (Sunday) meaning that it was not yet the first day of the week they went to the tomb to anoint the body of Jesus but He was no
longer in the tomb, He was already risen.
So Jesus Christ spent three
nights in the tomb which were, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday night, three days
in the tomb, which were Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and at the precise time
He was placed in the tomb on Wednesday night, He was resurrected on Saturday
night Thus fulfilling His messianic sign proving that He is indeed the true
Messiah.
We all have the choice to believe
what we want, but these times of ignorance God has overlooked but now commands
all men everywhere to repent, the question is, will You?
