The Lord's Heart-felt Prayer, how can it be fulfilled
The church,
the body of Christ - true believers, can be perfectly united in mind and
thought if they all believe and practice the system which Jesus Christ has
ordained for them to follow.
The system
which Jesus Christ has ordained for the unification of His church is simply
this; “…Christ loved the church and gave Himself for it, that He might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water
by the word, that He might present it to Himself
a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that it
should be holy and without blemish” (Ephesians 4:25-27).
The plan
which the Lord has for His church was foreordained before the foundation of the
world. "For He chose us in Christ, before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in
His sight: In love He predestined us to be adopted as His sons through Jesus
Christ, in accordance with His pleasure and will - to the praise of His
glorious grace, which He has freely given us in the One He loves.'
"In Him
we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance
with the riches of God’s grace that
He lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding.’
“And He made
known to us the mystery of His will according to His good pleasure, which He
purposed in Christ, to put into effect when the times will have reached their fulfilment
- to bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even
Christ” (Ephesians
1:4-10).
This plan of
God for our unification through sanctification and cleansing is being affected
in three ways:-
1. The water (flesh) has
to be washed by the word. [Christ our Righteousness]
This denotes
that, the word of God which is living and powerful, and sharper than any
two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of
joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart,
must convict the individual to bring about a change and transformation, so that
the body may be presented as a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which
is our spiritual act of worship.
Necessitating
that we; "Live a life worthy of the calling which we have received, and be
completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love, and
make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.
For Christ Himself bore our sins in His body [flesh] on the tree, so that we
might die to sin and live for righteousness. And remember also that Christ our
righteousness set us an example that we should follow His steps.
