EIGHTH DAY
There is an Eight day that is
associated with the Feast of Tabernacles which commemorates two very important
memorials and foreshadows one very important aspect of life.
a.
The
circumcision of Jesus Christ
With regards to the significance of
circumcision this is what the Lord said to Abraham; “And God said to Abraham:
"As for you, you shall keep My covenant, you and your descendants after
you throughout their generations. This is My covenant which you shall keep,
between Me and you and your descendants after you: Every male child among you
shall be circumcised; and you shall be circumcised in the flesh of your
foreskins, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between Me and you.’
“He who is eight days old among you
shall be circumcised, every male child in your generations, he who is born in
your house or bought with money from any foreigner who is not your descendant. He
who is born in your house and he who is bought with your money must be
circumcised, and My covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting
covenant. And the uncircumcised male child, who is not circumcised in the flesh
of his foreskin, that person shall be cut off from his people; he has broken My
covenant" (Genesis 17:9-14).
So, the circumcision of Jesus
Christ on the eighth day of His birth fulfilled the everlasting covenant which
the Lord made with Abraham, for in Him we were also circumcised with the
circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the
flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, buried with Him in baptism, in which you
also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him
from the dead.’
“And we, being dead in our
trespasses and the uncircumcision of our flesh, He has made alive together with
Him, having forgiven us all trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of
requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it
out of the way, having nailed it to the cross” (Colossians 2:
11-14).
So, we have been bought near to God
by the blood of Jesus Christ not only through His death but also through His
circumcision and so, we have been duly instructed saying; “Therefore remember
that you, once Gentiles in the flesh --- who are called Uncircumcision by what
is called the Circumcision made in the flesh by hands ---that at that time you
were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers
from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. But
now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the
blood of Christ” (Ephesians 2:11-13).
b.
b. The Name of Jesus
The name of Jesus Christ is the
other event that commemorates the Eighth Day of the Feast of Tabernacles as it
is written: “And when eight days were completed for the circumcision of the
Child, His name was called JESUS, the name given by the angel before He was
conceived in the womb” (Luke 2:21).
So, the Eighth Day of the Feast of
Tabernacles the day the Jesus received the name which is above all other name
as we have been duly instructed saying; “Therefore God also has highly exalted
Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus
every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those
under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is
Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:9-11).
c. c. It
foreshadows Eternity
The Eighth Day of the Feast of
Tabernacles foreshadows eternity when Jesus Christ will hand over everything
back to the Father as it is written; “Then comes the end, when He delivers the
kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority
and power. For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet. The
last enemy that will be destroyed is death. For "He has put all things
under His feet." But when He says "all things are put under
Him," it is evident that He who put all things under Him is excepted. Now
when all things are made subject to Him, then the Son Himself will also be
subject to Him who put all things under Him, that God may be all in all” (1Corinthians
15:24-28).
So, again I asked the question, how
could such a day which was ordained and designated for the joy of all peoples
be unknown, hidden or forgotten? Unless it is a plan, or plot to concealed it.
And how can one truly worship
the Father in spirit not knowing the rationale and objective for observing such
an important festival.
