Proof of the date of Christ's birth

Let us continue looking at biblical proofs relating to the date of Christ’s birth.

1.      The shepherds did not conceal what was made known to them

For after the departure of the angels, the shepherds said to one another, "Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us." And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger. Now when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child. And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds” (Luke 2:15-18).

2.      The circumcision of Christ

If no one knows the date of Christ’s birth how they would know when He was eight days old to circumcise Him as we have been duly instructed saying; “Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told them. And when eight days were completed for the circumcision of the Child, His name was called JESUS, the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb.” They also knew when He was thirty days old to present Him to the Father (Luke 2:20-23).

3.      The visit of the wise men from the East

It is stated clearly in the scriptures that, “Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, "Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him" (Matthew 2:1-2).

Please note carefully that the wise men did not say, where is He who is born to be king of the Jews, but rather, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews?” Signifying that, Jesus Christ as designated King from birth, and when the wise men had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh. The gold was to honor Him as King, the frankincense was to honor Him as God and the myrrh was to honor Him as man.

4.      Christ’s trial before Pilate

During Christ’s earthly trial, Pilate entered the Praetorium, called Jesus, and said to Him, "Are You the King of the Jews?" Jesus answered him, "Are you speaking for yourself about this, or did others tell you this concerning Me?" Pilate answered, "Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have delivered You to me. What have You done?" Jesus answered, "My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now My kingdom is not from here." Pilate therefore said to Him, "Are You a king then?" Jesus answered, "You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice" (John 18:33-37).

Please note carefully that the birth of Jesus Christ, or the Word become flesh and dwelt among men has everything to do with the kingdom of God which will be establish on this earth and to rule forever.
