There are specific guidelines on how we are
to live the life which is worthy of our calling for it is clearly stated that,
“Even as He (the Father) chose us in Him (Christ) before the foundation of the
world, that we should be holy and blameless before Him, He destined us in love
to be His sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of His will to
the praise of His glorious grace which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved”
(Ephesians
1:4).
Therefore, if one has to live a life, or
have a walk worthy of the calling which he/she has received, the number one
requirement is that of holiness. For, “As He who called you is holy, be holy
yourselves in all your conduct; since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I
am holy” (1Peter
1:15-16).
It is also very important to note that, our
new nature as a new creation since the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is
one of true righteousness and holiness and God did not call us to uncleanness,
but in holiness and therefore our main objective in life is to cleanse
ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in
the fear of God. Even the reason for our chastisement is for the purpose of
attaining holiness and therefore we are to pursue peace with all people, and
holiness, without which no one will see the Lord (Ephesians 4:24; 2Corinthians
4:1; 1Thessaonians 4:7; Hebrews 12:10;14).
Therefore, to live a life worthy of our
calling holiness is paramount and this should not come as a surprise since the
number one qualification of a priest is, “To be holy to their God, and not
profane the name of their God; for they offer the offerings by fire to the
Lord, the bread of their God; therefore they shall be holy” (Leviticus
21:6).
And so, the multi-million question for all
sincere believers in Jesus Christ should be, is there a formula for holiness!
And if yes, how is it applicable.
