Live a Life Worthy of the Calling
The apostle Paul urged believers to “Live a
life worthy of the calling they have received.” This calling in the first
instance is not the individual grace which has been given to each one as Christ
apportioned it, but rather the universal calling of which there is only one
hope.
We were all called to one hope when we were
called, just as there is one body and one Spirit, one Lord, one faith, one baptism;
one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all (Ephesians
4:4-6).
Judging from the myriads of differences
which exist in the Christian religion, it is apparent that not everyone has the
same hope for this calling. For example there are those whose hope is to sit in
heavenly bliss, others are unduly perturbed at what is to come, all that
matters to them is, praise the Lord I am saved; while the hope of others is to
rule and reign with Jesus Christ.
With such diametrically opposite views and
understanding of what is that hope of our calling, it is impossible to have
everyone following the same agenda, because we do not all have the same
perception of the calling.
What is the real objective of this Calling?
The real objective of this calling is
nothing less than, that of becoming kings and priests to serve our God, and to
reign on the earth. “Jesus Christ with His own blood purchased men for God from
every tribe and language, and people and nation, and have made them to be a
kingdom of priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth” (Revelation
5:9-10).
Jesus Christ is the Stone prophesied by
Daniel that will strike the image and will become a huge mountain (kingdom) and
will fill the whole earth. The prophet Daniel in interpreting the dream to king
Nebuchadnezzar said, “In the time of those kings, the God of heaven will set up
a kingdom that will never be destroyed, nor will be left to another people.’
“It will crush all those kingdoms and bring
them to an end, but it will itself endure forever. This is the meaning of the
vision of the rock cut out of a mountain, but not by human hand, a rock that broke the iron, the bronze,
the clay, the silver and the gold to pieces.’ The great God has shown the
king what will take place in the future. The dream is true and the
interpretation is trustworthy” (Daniel 2:44-45).
Jesus Christ is the Stone, the Kingdom of
God which the builders rejected, and has become the chief corner stone. Our
admonition is to; “Come to Him, to that living stone, rejected by men but in
God’s sight chosen and precious; you also, like living stones, are being built
into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices
acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.”
It is further stated, “But you are a chosen
generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own special people, that
you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His
marvelous light” (1Peter 2:5, 9).
Therefore becoming a kingdom of priest to
offer to God spiritual sacrifices that are acceptable to Him through Jesus
Christ, is the universal objective of everyone who has been called.
Unfortunately, this is not the case, and a lot of people stumble because they
disobey the message, which is also what they were destined for, and therefore,
many are called, but few are chosen.
