- To have a Holy Convocation
The
second logical reason for the Lord’s Sabbaths is to present ourselves before Him and to
rejoice together. For thus says the Lord; “These are My appointed feasts, the
appointed feasts of the Lord, which you are to proclaim as sacred assemblies.”
Again; “These are the Lords appointed feasts, the sacred assemblies you are to
proclaim at their appointed times” (Leviticus
23:2, 4).
So
there are definite times which the Lord has ordained for His people to come and
appear before Him. If one decides to appear before the Lord on days which He
has not ordained, this is profanity and an abomination, for this is what the
Lord says: “To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices to Me?"
Says the LORD;" I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams and the fat
of fed cattle. I do not delight in the blood of bulls, or of lambs or goats. When
you come to appear before Me, Who has required this from your hand, to trample
My courts? Bring no more futile sacrifices; Incense is an abomination to Me.
The New Moons, the Sabbaths, and the calling of assemblies --- I cannot endure
iniquity and the sacred meeting. Your New Moons and your appointed feasts My
soul hates; They are a trouble to Me, I am weary of bearing them. When you
spread out your hands, I will hide My eyes from you; Even though you make many
prayers, I will not hear. Your hands are full of blood” (Isaiah 1:11-15).
Let
us not get ourselves confused with the burnt offerings, because remember all
these things have been reformed and replaced by the body and blood of Jesus
Christ.
So
the rationale or objective of having a holy convocation is for families and friends
to come together and have fellowship with one another and with the Father and
the Son as we have been duly instructed saying; “And you shall rejoice before
the LORD your God, you and your sons and your daughters, your male and female
servants, and the Levite who is within your gates, since he has no portion nor
inheritance with you” (Deuteronomy
12:12).
The Sabbaths
there are days and occasions ordained by the Lord so that His people can come together
and have fellowship with one another and with Him and His Son for we have been
duly admonished saying; “that which we have seen and heard we declare to you,
that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the
Father and with His Son Jesus Christ. And these things we write to you that
your joy may be full” (1John 1:3-4).
So
with regards to the observance of the Sabbaths this is what we termed the spirt
of the law or to worship the Lord in spirit which is to have a purpose or a
rationale for appearing before the Lord on the days He has ordained.
