What are the rationales the purposes, the objectives for the Lord´s Sabbaths! Are they strict laws enforced on human beings to enslave then and rob them of their liberty and freedom? Or were they ordained for the wellbeing of humanity?
Because of the mass of confusion and disagreement that surround this important subject I will try to simplify and condensed it as much as I possibly can to see how best I can help those who are sincerely and wholeheartedly seeking the Lord to come to the understanding of this very important subject because I realize that the world is so divided when it comes to observing the Lord´s Sabbaths even among those who profess to be believers in Jesus Christ.
And since we have all been given the prerogative to observe or not to observe depending on the individual´s own persuasion or conviction it is therefore of immense importance that we know the importance and rationale for the Lord´s Sabbaths, so here are seven integral components and rationale for the Lord´s Sabbaths
1. The Sabbaths are feasts days of the Lord
First and foremost we should all bear in mind the fact that it is Jesus Christ the Lord God of the Old Testament, the Creator of the heavens and the earth, the seas and all that are in them, who is also the same yesterday, today and forever who ordained the observance of the Sabbaths! For we have been duly admonished saying;, “For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist” (Colossians 1:16-17).
During Christ´s earthly life when He began His ministry we see clearly where He observed the Sabbaths because the scripture states, “So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up.: And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read” (Luke 4:16).
Also, on the last great day of the Feast of Tabernacles, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, "If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water." But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified” (John 7:37-39).
And then He said to the Pharisees, “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. Therefore the Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath." We should also establish from the offset that the Sabbaths will continue to be observed in the future, for it is written; “For as the new heavens and the new earth which I will make shall remain before Me," says the LORD, “So shall your descendants and your name remain. And it shall come to pass that from one New Moon to another, and from one Sabbath to another, all flesh shall come to worship before Me," says the LORD” (Mark 2:27; Isaiah. 66:21-23).
“And it shall come to pass that everyone who is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the Feast of Tabernacles. And it shall be that whichever of the families of the earth do not come up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, on them there will be no rain. If the family of Egypt will not come up and enter in, they shall have no rain; they shall receive the plague with which the LORD strikes the nation who do not come up to keep the Feast of Tabernacles” (Zechariah 14:16-18).
Therefore, the main objective for observing the Sabbaths it is because they are ordained festivals of the Lord in order to ascribe to Jesus Christ the glory and honor that is due to Him as being the Lord, for thus says the Lord, “These are the feasts of the LORD, holy convocations which you shall proclaim at their appointed times.” And, “You shall keep My Sabbaths and reverence My sanctuary: I am the LORD” (Leviticus 23::4 19:30; 26:2).
There is therefore no ambiguity or shadow of doubt that the Sabbaths were ordained by the Lord to be observed for His purpose, to honor and glorify Him as the Lord, and for His people to appear before Him to worship and have fellowship. It is truly a shame, a total disgrace and blatant profanity to witness the way the Lord´s Sabbaths are being rejected desecrated and substituted with pagan festivals even by those who profess to be believers.
With brotherly love
