How
is holiness sustained?
Holiness,
the state in which the new man was Created in Christ Jesus is sustained only if,
we indeed continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away
from the hope of the gospel, which was preached to every creature under heaven”
(Colossians
1:23).
The
gospel which was preached to every creature under heaven is, “The hidden
mystery of Jesus Christ, which from the beginning of the ages has been hidden
in God who created all things through Jesus Christ”. But now has been made
manifest, and by the prophetic scriptures has been made known to all nations,
according to the commandment of the everlasting God, for obedience to the
faith” For, “Had the rulers of this age (Satan and his demons) knew of this
hidden fellowship of the mystery they would not have crucified the Lord of
Glory” (Ephesians3:4,
9; Romans 16:25-26; 1Corinthians 2:8).
And
so, holiness is first and foremost sustained by, “Having a walk worthy of the
calling with which we have been called,” which is to be holy. For we have been
duly admonished saying: “but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in
all your conduct, because it is written, "Be holy, for I am holy." (Ephesians
4:1; 1 Pet. 1: 15-16;
And
secondly, by having daily confession and communion with God as we have been
admonished saying; “But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have
fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us
from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the
truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive
us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have
not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us” (I
John 1: 7-10).
And
so, to maintain that close intimate relationship with the Father we have been
instructed saying; “My little children, these things I write to you, so that
you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus
Christ the righteous. And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not
for ours only but also for the whole world (1John. 1: 1-2).
One
should also take into consideration the fact that, without the shedding of
blood there is no forgiveness as illustrated by Jesus Christ Who during the
last supper took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and
said, "Take, eat; this is My body." Then He took the cup, and gave thanks,
and gave it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you. For this is My
blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins” (Matthew
26: 27-28).
It
is clearly stated; “for the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given
it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood
that makes atonement for the soul.' And according to the law almost all things
are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission.” And
so, Jesus Christ has given His body to eat and His blood to drink in the form
of the bread and wine in order to sustain our holiness (Leviticus
17:11; Hebrews 9:22).
Therefore,
being a new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and
holiness, and so, like righteousness, it is he who practices holiness that is
holy even as Christ is holy. For we have been duly instructed saying; “Little
children, let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous,
just as He is righteous” (1John. 3: 7).
And
so, it has been granted to us that we, being delivered from the hand of our
enemies, might serve Him without fear, in holiness and righteousness before Him
all the days of our life. The provisions have already been made and therefore,
we are without excuse.
