The other appointed time to offer to the Lord the food for His offerings is as:
• A sin /trespass offering which
is offered on behalf of our sins.
And
so it is written, “My little children, these things I write to you, that you
may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus
Christ the righteous. And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins and not
for ours only but also for the whole world” (1John 2:1-2).
Hence
the reason why we have been duly admonished by the apostle Paul saying; “So let
no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or
Sabbaths, which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ”
(Colossians 2:16-17).
Animal
sacrifices with their food and drink offerings, are no longer the substances
used in our daily thanksgiving offerings, peace/fellowship offerings on the
Sabbaths and Festivals, and sin offerings, which were a shadow of things to
come, but the real substance now is the body and blood of Jesus Christ in the
form of the bread and wine.
It
was for this reason that on the night before Jesus Christ was crucified, He
took bread blessed it and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said,
“Take eat, this is My body.” Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it
to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. For this is My blood of the new
covenant, (the second that was established) which is shed for many for the
remission of sins (Matthew 26:26-28).
Whenever
one eats of this bread, and drinks of this cup, the Lord's death is being
proclaimed till He comes: In other words, whenever one partakes of the
ordinance of communion, the purpose for which Jesus Christ died, which is to,
love, heal and to forgive is fulfilled: Thereby, presenting the worshiper
perfect, holy, blameless and irreproachable before God, as was preordained
before the foundation of the world. This is the state which animal sacrifices
with their food and drink offerings could not accomplish, and therefore had to
be abolished.
But
now we have the assurance that, if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just
to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness, and this is
attainable only through the blood of Jesus Christ as we have been duly
instructed saying: “For the life of every creature is in the blood and God has
given it to us upon the altar to make atonement for our souls; for it is the
blood that makes atonement for the soul, and without the shedding of blood,
there is no forgiveness. We receive redemption through His blood, the
forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.
And
so Christ fulfilled the law of sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings, and
offerings for sin by establishing the second which is His body and blood as the
substance to be used, being the perfect sacrifice that fulfills the Father's
will, and is able to present the worshiper perfect before God; And Jesus Christ
Himself as our eternal High Priest, Who is also able to save to the uttermost
those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession
for them.
For
such a High Priest we are told was fitting for us, who is holy, harmless,
undefiled, separate from sinners, and has become higher than the heavens; Who
does not need daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for
His own sins and then for the people's, for this He did once for all when He
offered up Himself” (Hebrews 7:
25-27).
And
so the second established will of God is fulfilled, by Jesus Christ who has
loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a
sweet-smelling aroma, to be the substance for our thanksgiving offerings, our
fellowship/peace offerings, and our sin/trespass offerings, replacing the
animal sacrifices with its meal and drink offerings, which could not present
the worshiper perfect: Bearing in mind that, if the animal sacrifices with
their meal and drink offerings were able to take away sins, they would not have
ceased to be offered.
