The three-fold application of the second established will of the Father
- As the Passover
At
the Passover, which is a once and for all time phenomenon, the sacrificial body
of Jesus Christ was offered as the redemption price, to redeemed and delivered
humanity from the penalty of death that was imposed upon them because of the
sin of the first Adam. For it is written; “For if by one man’s offense (Adam’s)
death reigned through the one: much more those who receive abundance of grace
and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus
Christ. Therefore, as through one man’s offence judgment came to all men, resulting
in condemnation, even so through one man’s righteous act the free gift came to
all men, resulting in justification of life.”
It
is stated also that, “God demonstrated His own love toward us, in that while we
were still sinners, Christ died for us.” And that, “the love of Christ compels
us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died; and He died
for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him
who died for them and rose again.”
This
application of Christ's sacrificial body is commemorated at the Passover once
yearly to commemorate His death for the salvation and sanctification of man (Romans 5:17-18; 5:8; 2 Corinthians 5:14-15).
- Our Atonement:
Unlike
the Passover which is a once and for all phenomenon, atonement is a continuous
exercise applicable for the forgiveness of sins. It is God’s act of
righteousness through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For
there is no difference: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ
Jesus Whom God set forth to be a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to
demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over
the sins that were previously committed, to demonstrate at the present time His
righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith
in Jesus” Romans 3:21-26).
The
irony of truth is no one can say I have no sin, or I have not sinned. For, “If
we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to
cleanse us from all unrighteousness: If we say that we have not sinned, we make
Him a liar, and His word is not in us” (1John 1:8-10).
And
so, instead as in the past, according to the first will, where the high priest
went into the second part of the tabernacle alone once a year, not without
blood, which he offered for himself and for the people's sins committed in
ignorance; we can now according to the second established will of the Father, can
come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to
help in time of need.
- Food for the Lord's Offerings
The
third application of the sacrificial body of Jesus Christ is the use of His
sacrificial body in the form of the bread and wine as the food for the Lord's
offerings. As it is written; “For every high priest including Jesus Christ is
appointed for men in things pertaining to God, that He may offer both gifts and
sacrifices for sins. Therefore it is necessary that Jesus Christ also have
something to offer (Hebrews 5:1;
8:3).
Like
in the first established will of the Father where; "Sacrifices and
offerings, burnt offerings, and offerings for sin were offered, but God did not
desire, nor had pleasure in them" (which were offered according to the
law), God did not desire, nor had pleasure in them because they were
unprofitable and useless, not being able to clear the conscience and present
the worshiper perfect before God.
Therefore,
when Christ came into the world He said, "Behold, I have come to do Your
will, O God." He takes away the first that He may establish the second. By
that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus
Christ once for all” (Hebrews 10: 9-10)
Today,
in our new dispensation it is the sacrificial body of Christ in the form of the
bread and wine, that is offered as the food for the Lord's offerings;
