The fourth integral component of true spiritual worship

  1. Ascribe to the Lord the glory due to His name

The fourth integral aspect of true spiritual worship is to ascribe to the Lord the glory due to His name  and this we do by presenting ourselves before Him at His appointed Feast days for thus says the Lord; “You shall keep My Sabbaths and reverence My sanctuary: I am the LORD” (Leviticus 19:30; 26:2).

Every Sabbath ascribes to the Lord the glory due to His name for what He did for humanity on that particular day for example:

  1. The weekly Sabbath (Saturday)

This day ascribes to the Lord the glory due to His name as the Creator. For thus says the Lord; “Therefore the children of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath throughout their generations as a perpetual covenant. It is a sign between Me and the children of Israel forever; for in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed” (Exodus 31:16-17).

  1. Passover and days of Unleavened bread

On the Passover and the days of Unleavened Bread we ascribe to the Lord the glory due to His name as our Redeemer and Savior, thus expressing our joy, gratitude and thanksgiving to the Lord for delivering us from sin.

  1.  The Feast of First Fruits

This is the Sunday which falls during the seven days of Unleavened Bread, on that day we ascribe to the Lord the glory due to His name as being our resurrection and the life. This is the day that Jesus Christ ascended to heaven and presented Himself to the Father on our behalf after His resurrection.

This is not to say that Jesus Christ resurrected on a Sunday because we have been duly instructed saying; “Now after the Sabbath, as the first day of the week began to dawn, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it” (Matthew 28:1-2).

Meaning that, when Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb, it had just begin to dawn towards the first day of the week, meaning that it was not yet the first day of the week and at that time Jesus was already reason.

  1. On the Feast of Pentecost

On that day we ascribe to the Lord the glory and honor due to His name as our Helper, Teacher, Healer, Provider and commemorating the arrival of the Holy Spirit.

  1.  On the Feast of Trumpets

On that day we ascribe to the Lord the glory and honor due to His name as being our Deliverer and Conqueror.

  1. On the Day of Atonement

On that day we ascribe to the Lord the glory and honor due to His name as being our Atonement and High Priest;

  1. On the Feast of Tabernacles,

During this festival we ascribe to the Lord the glory and honor due to His name as being the King of kings and Lord of lords and also commemorating the date of His Birth.

  1. On the Eighth day of the Feast of Tabernacles

On that day we ascribe to the Lord the glory and honor due to His name our Circumcision especially Gentiles as we have been duly admonished saying; “Therefore remember that you, once Gentiles in the flesh --- who are called Uncircumcision by what is called the Circumcision made in the flesh by hands ---that at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ” (Ephesians 2: 11-13).

This day also ascribe to the Lord the glory due to His name as being the Eternal God.

The third integral component of true spiritual worship

  1. Worship God in truth

To worship God in truth denotes that we worship Him in accordance to His word for we have been duly instructed saying; “The entirety of Your word is truth.” And, “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.” And, it is clearly stated that; “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made” (Psalms 119:160; John17:17; John 1:1-3).

Truth therefore, is nothing less than Jesus Christ Himself and the words spoken by Him, for thus He said; "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6).

Therefore, when it comes to worship the One and only true God if the day and occasion that is being celebrated has not been ordained by Jesus Christ then this is absolutely vain and idolatrous. For thus says the Lord; “This people honor Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me. And in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men. For laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men” (Matthew 15:8-9; Mark 7:6-8).

Remember again the Lord said to the prophet Isaiah; “When you come to appear before Me, Who has required this from your hand, to trample My courts?” Therefore, one ought not to trample the Lord’s courts unless specifically ordained by Him. For thus He said to Moses; “The feasts of the LORD, which you shall proclaim to be holy convocations, these are My feasts.” And. “These are the feasts of the LORD, holy convocations which you shall proclaim at their appointed times” (Isaiah 1: 12; Leviticus 23:2, 4).

So as one can clearly see, the Lord has ordained specific times for His people to come and appear before Him. Therefore, no one is excusable for thus says the Lord; "Speak also to the children of Israel, saying: 'Surely My Sabbaths you shall keep, for it is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I am the LORD who sanctifies you…”It is a sign between Me and the children of Israel forever; for in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed” (Exodus 31: 13; 17).

And; “Moreover I also gave them My Sabbaths (plural), to be a sign between them and Me, that they might know that I am the LORD who sanctifies them…hallow My Sabbaths (plural), and they will be a sign between Me and you, that you may know that I am the LORD your God” (Ezekiel 20:12;20).

I am therefore personally amazed and bewildered as to why some professing believers are so passionate in observing the seventh day weekly Sabbath and show little or no respect and regards to the observance of the annual sabbaths when they are all specific times which the Lord ordained for His people to appear before Him to worship. What a paradox?

The second integral component of true spiritual worship

  1. Worship God in spirit

Worshiping God in spirit is His delight for thus says the Lord; “But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth" (John 4: 23-24).

Now, to worship God in spirit constitute the following:

a.      “You shall have no other gods before Me. " You shall not make for yourself a carved image --- any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments” (Exodus 20: 3-6; Deuteronomy 5:7-10).

b.      "Take careful heed to yourselves, for you saw no form when the LORD spoke to you at Horeb out of the midst of the fire, lest you act corruptly and make for yourselves a carved image in the form of any figure: the likeness of male or female, the likeness of any animal that is on the earth or the likeness of any winged bird that flies in the air, the likeness of anything that creeps on the ground or the likeness of any fish that is in the water beneath the earth. And take heed, lest you lift your eyes to heaven, and when you see the sun, the moon, and the stars, all the host of heaven, you feel driven to worship them and serve them, which the LORD your God has given to all the peoples under the whole heaven as a heritage” (Deuteronomy 4:15-19).

  1. Worshiping God in spirit refers also to the mindset, the rationale, the objective, the purpose for presenting ourselves before Him, what is the occasion and what are we focusing our minds on when we present ourselves before Him.

For thus says the Lord; “When you come to appear before Me, Who has required this from your hand, to trample My courts? Bring no more futile sacrifices; Incense (prayer) is an abomination to Me. The New Moons, the Sabbaths, and the calling of assemblies --- I cannot endure iniquity and the sacred meeting. Your New Moons and your appointed feasts My soul hates; They are a trouble to Me, I am weary of bearing them. When you spread out your hands, I will hide My eyes from you; Even though you make many prayers, I will not hear. Your hands are full of blood” (Isaiah 1:12-15).

Please note carefully that, the New Moons, the Sabbaths and calling of assemblies which the Lord hates are not the ones that He ordained and gave to Moses saying; “These are the feasts of the LORD, holy convocations which you shall proclaim at their appointed times.” But those which have been established through the customs and traditions of men.

These festivals are recorded in the 23rd. chapter of Leviticus and to anyone who believes that these festivals are meant only for the Jews, this is what the scriptures say; “Rejoice, O Gentiles, with His people!" And again: " Praise the LORD, all you Gentiles! Laud Him, all you peoples!" (Romans 15:10-11).

According to the word of God; “One law shall be for the native-born and for the stranger who dwells among you." And, “there is one Lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy. Who are you to judge another? (Exodus 12:49; Numbers 15:16; James 4:12).

The first integral component of true spiritual worship

  1. Delight yourself in the Lord

The first integral component of true spiritual worship is to delight oneself in the Lord. God loves a cheerful giver, and as The Father and Master He deserves our highest honor and reverence, and we ought to present to Him the best that we have. If we offer to Him the blind, the evil, the lame and the sick, we will not be favorably accepted. The only acceptable offering we can offer to God is what He has sanctified and set apart as holy. To enable us in taking delight when appearing before Him, the Lord has established a principle, which if obeyed, will ensure our joy continuously in His presence. This principle is designed to supply our needs, by which we will be able to present ourselves before Him at His appointed time and to rejoice before Him.

We are not to present ourselves before Him because of legalism, cohesion or trying to please others. For we have been duly instructed saying; “One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike. Let each be fully convinced in his own mind. He who observes the day, observes it to the Lord; and he who does not observe the day, to the Lord, he does not observe it” (Romans 14:5-6).

So worshiping God is not something one does out of compulsion, cohesion or legalism, but from a cheerful and willing heart and expressing this delight by following this principle which states; “Sing to the LORD, all the earth; Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day. Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among all peoples. For the LORD is great and greatly to be praised; He is also to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the peoples are idols, But the LORD made the heavens. Honor and majesty are before Him; Strength and gladness are in His place” 1Chronicles 16:23-27; Psalms 95: 1-7; Psalms 96:1-7).

And so, we have been duly admonished saying; “Rejoice in the LORD, O you righteous! For praise from the upright is beautiful. Praise the LORD with the harp; Make melody to Him with an instrument of ten strings. Sing to Him a new song; Play skillfully with a shout of joy. For the word of the LORD is right, and all His work is done in truth” (Psalms 33:1-4).

Therefore, one should take delight and pleasure in presenting him/herself before God at the times and occasions which He has ordained.

The seven integral components of true spiritual worship (part two)

When it comes to the worship of the One and only true God, the mood and atmosphere before the throne is one of praise and worship, it is a glorious company, for it is written, “For you have not come to a mountain that can be touched and that is burning with fire; to darkness, gloom and storm; to a trumpet blast or to such a voice speaking words that those who heard it begged that no further word be spoken to them, because they could not bear what was commanded: If even an animal touches the mountain, it must be stoned. The sight was so terrifying that Moses said, “I am trembling with fear” (Hebrews 12:18-21).

But rather, “You have come to Mount Zion, to the heavenly Jerusalem, the city of the living God, and to innumerable angels in joyful assembly, to the church of the first born, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the judge of all men, to the spirits of righteous men made perfect, to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel” (Hebrews 12:22-24).

The meeting place before the throne is on a sea of glass like crystal. This place is reserved only for those who have the victory over the beast, over his image, over his mark and over the number of his name. They stand on the sea of glass with harps and sing the song of the Lord saying, “Great and wonderful are thy deeds, Lord God Almighty, just and true are your ways, O king of the saints! Who shall not fear and glorify thy name, O Lord? For you alone are holy. All nations shall come and worship before you, for your righteous acts have been revealed” (Revelation 15:2-4).

Those who worship the beast are not permitted to enter Mount Zion, the city of the living God. There should be no ambiguity as to who the beast is, because the Prophet Daniel wrote quite emphatically; “Those great beasts which are four, are four kings (kingdoms) which arise out of the earth, but the saints of the Most-High shall receive the kingdom, and possess the kingdom forever, even for ever and ever” (Daniel 7:17-18).

The beast therefore is a ruling kingdom to whom the dragon (Satan) has given his power, his throne and great authority, the mark and number of the beast pertain to economic and social activities instituted by the beast which unless one becomes a part of, will not be allowed to buy or sell. The image pertains to a symbol of worship which the beast has substituted in place of the true symbol of worship, and whosoever has laid aside God laws regarding worship and substitute it with the symbol the beast has established, are not permitted before the throne of God, because by observing the substitute rather than the reality, they are inadvertently worshiping the dragon who gave his authority to the beast.

The rationale for all this was for Israel to consider in their heart, that the Lord Himself is God in heaven above and on the earth beneath; and that there is no other besides Him.

However, in order for God to distinguish Himself as the One and only true God, and distinguish His people from all others, He made a conditional covenant with them, so that if obeyed, they shall be a special treasure to Him above all people, for all the earth is His. They are to Him a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. Those who obey the covenant are described as, “A chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that they may declare the praises of Him who called them out of darkness into His marvelous light. Once they were not a people, but now they are the people of God; once they had not received mercy, but now they have received mercy” (Exodus 19:5-6, Leviticus 19:30; 26:2; 1Peter 2:9).

Therefore, as a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation a people belonging to God to declare the praises of Him who called us out of darkness to His marvelous light there is a protocol or a rule of conduct as to when and how we should approach the throne of grace. So, here are seven integral components of true spiritual worship.

The seven integral components of true worship

The seven integral components of true spiritual worship

To every occasion there are protocols, procedures, guidelines and rules to follow, appearing before the throne of God is no exception. It is stated that, “Since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible nature, namely His eternal power and deity, has been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse” (Romans 1:19- 20).

The procedure for entering the presence of God in the earthly tabernacle was a copy of the reality, for, “It was necessary that the copies of the things in the heavens should be purified with these, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these, for Christ has not entered the holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us” (Hebrews 9:23-24).

Since it is the procedure and not the objective that has been changed, it is imperative that we know the formality of the occasion, whether it is formal, semi-formal, or informal, and what sort of gift or offering that is required, so that we can be adequately prepared to approach the throne of grace. Therefore, in approaching the throne of grace we should take cognizance of the nature of the occasion.

What can be derived from the scriptures is that before the throne of God is a festal gathering as it is written; “I was in the Spirit, and there before me was a throne in heaven with someone sitting on it, and the one who sat there had the appearance of jasper and carnelian, and a rainbow, resembling an emerald, encircled the throne.

Surrounding the throne were twenty-four other thrones, and seated on them were twenty-four elders (representing the twelve tribes of Israel and the twelve apostles). They were dressed in white and had crowns of gold on their heads. From the throne came flashes of lightning, rumblings and peals of thunder.

Before the throne, seven lamps were blazing, which are the seven spirits of God; and before the throne there is as it were what looked like a sea of glass, clear and crystal. In the center around the throne, were four living creatures, and they were covered with eyes, in front and behind…Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even under his wings. Day and night they never stop saying: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come.’

“Whenever the living creatures give glory, honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne and who lives for ever and ever, the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne, and worship Him who lives for ever and ever. They lay their crowns before the throne and say: “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being” (Revelations 4: 2-11).

Have you been deceived?

HAVE YOU BEEN DECEIVED?

Permit me to  ask a thought- provoking question; Are you among the many who have been deceived?

To some people this question may sound rather preposterous and inconceivable in this modern era of higher learning, science, and technology.

Nevertheless, inconceivable as it may sound, we have been forewarned saying, “Let no one deceive himself, if anyone among you seems to be wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God” (1Corinthians 3:18-19).

Regardless how wise one may think he/she is in regards to the things of this world, he/she can not understand the spiritual things, because the natural mind does not receive the things of the Spirit, they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them because they are spiritually discerned.

We have been forewarned by the greatest Teacher of all times saying; “Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, claiming, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many.”

He said again, “At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people.” He also predicted of the time when, “False Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect,’ and said, ‘See, I have told you ahead of time” (Matthew. 24:4, 5, 10,11, 24, 25).

There is also the prophetic word which reminds us of the great whore [church] who sits on many waters [nations] with whom the kings of the earth committed fornication [intimate political relation], and intoxicated [deceived] the inhabitants of the earth with the wine of her fornication.

Since it is predicted that the many and not the few that will be deceived, the thought - provoking question is, “Are you among the many that are deceived?”

The deception will be so intense and widespread, if it would have been possible, even the very elect would have been deceived. Therefore, what assurance can one have to ascertain that he/she is not deceived!

First of all, a deceived person does not know that he/she is deceived. A deceived person is one who has been misled, or made to believe as true something that is false. A deceived person is sincere, but is sincerely wrong.

One makes himself/herself vulnerable to spiritual deception when he/she begins to diverge from the faith which was once and for all delivered to the saints. And this was prophesied to happen long ago. Jude a servant of Jesus Christ wrote saying, “Beloved, being very eager to write to you of our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints. For admission has been secretly gained by some who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly persons who pervert the grace of our God into licentiousness and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ” (Jude 3-4).

Ungodly persons have perverted the grace of our God into licentiousness and deny our only Master and Lord Jesus Christ, by not honoring him with an acceptable offering on the days He has ordained to be honored as Lord. For thus says the Lord, “You shall observe My Sabbaths and reverence My sanctuary. I am the Lord (Leviticus 19:30; 26:2).

It is the duty of a son to honor his father, and the duty of a servant, to honor his master. The Lord therefore said, “If then I am a Father, where is My honor? And if I am a Master, where is My fear?

The Sabbaths therefore were ordained for man to come before the Father and Master, with the acceptable gift to honor Him as Lord and for this reason Jesus said, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath; so the Son of man is Lord even of the Sabbath.” Jesus Christ being Lord or Master of the Sabbath signifies that we as sons and servants must honor Him on that day, which was ordained for that purpose.

The antidote for deception is to abide in the truth, and do not diverge from the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints. We have been admonished saying, “See that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father. And this is what He promised us – even eternal life” (1John 2:24-25).

The reason for the apostle John giving this admonition was to avoid deception. He said, “I am writing these things to you about those who are trying to deceive you.” What we have heard from the beginning; and allowed to abide in us so as not to be deceived is the old commandment.

The Apostle John wrote; “Brethren, I write no new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you have had from the beginning. This old commandment is the word which you heard from the beginning” (1John .2:7).

According to the Apostle John, the word which was heard from the beginning was, “That which was from the beginning which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched – this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. ‘The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ” (1John. 1:1-3).

The old commandment or the Word which have been heard from the beginning became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the One and only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

When He came to the world He said, “Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot will pass from the law until all is accomplished”.

He further gave a serious warning and said, “Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 5:19).

Pause and consider thoroughly, in all of the old commandments written by the Word which was from the beginning, which one of them that has been violated with impunity? The one which has been violated with impunity and held in contempt; is the one the Lord specifically reminded us to keep saying; " Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy" and which was ordained, to honor and reverence Him as Lord.

The first great commandment which is to love the Lord our God with all our heart, with all our soul, and with all our mind is fulfilled by practicing the first four of the Ten commandments which constitutes the act of true spiritual worship.

And the second great commandment which is to love our neighbor as ourselves is fulfilled by practicing the last six of the Ten Commandments and being demonstrated by using our different gifts, talents and abilities for the benefit of others.

The main reason why the original apostles proclaimed to us what they have seen and heard, concerning the Word, is for us to have fellowship or communion with them, it is for us to consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as we see the day drawing near.

If you have been taught otherwise, and have been practicing anything contrary to the word which was heard from the beginning, you have strayed away from the faith, and have unfortunately been deceived.

Whosoever does not listen to Moses and the prophets, will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead, because they testify of the Word which was from the beginning. It is up to us to judge ourselves. If we judged ourselves truly, we should not be judged. But when we are judged by the Lord, we are chastened so that we may not be condemned along with the world. For the crux of the matter is, the Lord’s Sabbath/s are holy both to the Lord and to His people and that is the way one demonstrates his/her love, respect, gratitude and adoration to the Lord for what He did for humanity on that particular occasion.

And the sure way of knowing that we are not deceived is by adhering to the instructions which state; " Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. He who says, "I know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him" ( 1 John 2:3-5).

Avoid being one of those who are under the huge cloud of deception by which Satan has deceived the whole world.
