The seven integral components of true spiritual worship
To every occasion there are protocols, procedures, guidelines and rules to follow, appearing before the throne of God is no exception. It is stated that, “Since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible nature, namely His eternal power and deity, has been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse” (Romans 1:19- 20).
The procedure for entering the
presence of God in the earthly tabernacle was a copy of the reality, for, “It
was necessary that the copies of the things in the heavens should be purified
with these, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than
these, for Christ has not entered the holy places made with hands, which are
copies of the true, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of
God for us” (Hebrews 9:23-24).
Since it is the procedure and not
the objective that has been changed, it is imperative that we know the
formality of the occasion, whether it is formal, semi-formal, or informal, and
what sort of gift or offering that is required, so that we can be adequately
prepared to approach the throne of grace. Therefore, in approaching the throne
of grace we should take cognizance of the nature of the occasion.
What can be derived from the
scriptures is that before the throne of God is a festal gathering as it is
written; “I was in the Spirit, and there before me was a throne in heaven with
someone sitting on it, and the one who sat there had the appearance of jasper
and carnelian, and a rainbow, resembling an emerald, encircled the throne.
Surrounding the throne were
twenty-four other thrones, and seated on them were twenty-four elders (representing
the twelve tribes of Israel and the twelve apostles). They were dressed in
white and had crowns of gold on their heads. From the throne came flashes of
lightning, rumblings and peals of thunder.
Before the throne, seven lamps were
blazing, which are the seven spirits of God; and before the throne there is as
it were what looked like a sea of glass, clear and crystal. In the center
around the throne, were four living creatures, and they were covered with eyes,
in front and behind…Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was
covered with eyes all around, even under his wings. Day and night they never
stop saying: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and
is to come.’
“Whenever the living creatures give
glory, honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne and who lives for ever
and ever, the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne,
and worship Him who lives for ever and ever. They lay their crowns before the
throne and say: “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor
and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and
have their being” (Revelations 4: 2-11).
