By their fruits you shall know
them
Although we are not to judge one
another nevertheless we should be able to make a clear distinction between the fruits
that are grown in the field because we have been forewarned by Jesus Christ
saying; “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly
they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather
grapes from thorn bushes or figs from thistles?’
“Even so, every good tree bears
good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit,
nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is
cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore by their fruits you will know them”
(Matthew
7:15-20).
Now since we are responsible to
examine and judge ourselves it is therefore incumbent on all believers to grow
in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, which is
demonstrated by the keeping of His commandments. Because, "He who says,
"I know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the
truth is not in him. But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God (the
fruit of the seed sown in our heart) is perfected in him. By this we know that
we are in Him. He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as
He walked" (1 John 2:3-6).
Now love is categorized by two great
commandments. The first is fulfilled by loving the Lord our God with all our
heart, with all our soul, and with all our mind, which is demonstrated by
having no other gods before the One and only true God, by not making for
ourselves a carved image or the likeness of anything that is in heaven above,
or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth to bow
down to them or serve them; by not taking the name of God in vain, and to
remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy.
The second aspect of love is to
love our neighbor as ourselves, denoting that we do unto others what we would
like them do to us, and assisting them in any way possible, for it is written;
"By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also
ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoever has this world's
goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does
the love of God abide in him? My little children let us not love in word or in
tongue, but indeed and in truth" (1John 3:16-18).
And if indeed we are God’s field
our conscience will also bear witness and our thoughts will either accuse or
else excuse us for we have an anointing from the Holy One, and we know all
things because the
anointing which we have received from Him abides in us, and we do not need that
anyone to teach us, but as the same anointing teaches us concerning all things,
and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught us, we will abide in
Him.
