Now the works which were ordained
before the foundation of the world that we should walk in them are those which
we as co-workers with God are to build on the one and only foundation who is
Jesus Christ and they are as follows;
1. God's field
According to the apostle Paul,
"For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, you are God's
building. According to the grace of God, which was given to me, as a wise
master builder I have laid the foundation and other builds on it. But let each
one take heed how he builds on it. For no other foundation can anyone lay than
that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ"
The irony of truth is, “to each
one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ's gift." But
the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: for
to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of
knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to
another gifts of healing by the same Spirit, to another the working of
miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another
different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. But one
and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually
as He wills" (Ephesians 4:7; 1 Corinthians 12:7-11).
Therefore, we are individually
responsible for the grace which we have received, and so we have been
admonished saying; "Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not
as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own
salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who works in you both to will
and to do for His good pleasure" (Philippians 2:12-13).
God's field according to the word
of God is our heart in which the word of God is sown. For it is written; "
When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand it, then the
wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is he who
received seed by the wayside. But he who received the seed on stony places,
this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; yet he has
no root in himself but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or
persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles.'
"Now he who received seed
among the thorns is he, who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the
deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful. But he who
received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it,
who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some
thirty" (Matthew 13: 19-23).
The rationale for being God's
field is to become productive, so that the seed which is the word of God can
germinate, grow and bear fruit. Now the fruit produced from the cultivation of
the seed which is sown in our heart is spiritual and should be clearly
manifested in us as the field of God.
