6. The
Eighth Day
The sixth biblical proof that
verifies the exact date of Jesus’ birth is the Eighth day which is associated
with the Feast of Tabernacles. In the observance of the Feast of Tabernacles
which commemorates the date of Christ’s birth there is an Eighth day attached
to it and it is imperative that we take into consideration this Eighth Day as
we have been duly instructed saying; “Speak to the children of Israel, saying:
'The fifteenth day of this seventh month shall be the Feast of Tabernacles for
seven days to the LORD. On the first day there shall be a holy convocation. You
shall do no customary work on it.”
“For seven days you shall offer an
offering made by fire to the LORD. On the eighth day you shall have a holy
convocation, and you shall offer an offering made by fire to the LORD. It is a
sacred assembly, and you shall do no customary work on it” (Leviticus
23:34-36).
'Also, on the fifteenth day of the
seventh month, when you have gathered in the fruit of the land, you shall keep
the feast of the LORD for seven days; on the first day there shall be a
sabbath-rest, and on the eighth day a sabbath-rest” (Leviticus
23:39).
Please note carefully that this
feast is termed “the feast of the Lord” meaning that, this feast is designated
to honor and glorify the Lord as the King of kings and Lord of lords a title
which He attained from birth.
So, the question is, what is the
objective and rationale for this Eighth Day of the Feast of Tabernacles
especially in our New Testament dispensation?
The Eighth Day of the Feast of Tabernacles
in our New Testament dispensation is a commemoration of the day on which Jesus
Christ was circumcised as we have been duly instructed saying; “And when eight
days were completed for the circumcision of the Child, His name was called
JESUS, the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb” (Luke
2:21).
This day plays a very important role
in our New Testament dispensation because this is the day the Lord received the
name which is above all other names as we have been duly instructed saying; “Therefore
God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every
name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and
of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should
confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians
2: -11).
It is also the day when He made
Jews and Gentiles one as we have been duly instructed saying’; “Therefore
remember that you, once Gentiles in the flesh --- who are called Uncircumcision
by what is called the Circumcision made in the flesh by hands ---that at that
time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and
strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the
world.”
“But now in Christ Jesus you who
once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For He Himself
is our peace, who has made both(Jews and Gentiles) one, and has broken down the
middle wall of separation, having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is,
the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one
new man from the two, thus making peace, and that He might reconcile them both
to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity” (
Ephesians 1:11-16)
The biblical Eighth Day is associated
with cleansing and circumcision of the male child and with the birth of Jesus Christ
there is no exception. And this should be a day on which both Jews and Gentiles
should hold in high esteem because this is the day that the Lord made both Jews
and Gentiles one.
