Verifying the date of Jesus' birth

Verifying the date of Jesus’ birth

The majority of people in the Western world grew up with the concept believing the theory that no one knows the date of Jesus’ birth and have substituted the pagan festival of Christmas and have associated all the objectives and rationale in celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ to this pagan festival such as; “a day of joy to all the people” and a time for family togetherness. Even those who advertently or inadvertently observing this day as a religious festival still do not associate this day with the date of Jesus’ birth. They claimed that “if God wanted us to know the date of Jesus birth it would have been clarified just as the date of His death.

What a tragedy? For a day which was designated as a day of joy for all the people as clearly stated by the angel who visited the shepherds on the exact date of Jesus’ birth stating; “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord;”

Therefore, for this day not to be known or forgotten by those to whom this special day was intended and even having it substituted by a pagan festival is absurd.

So, let us now with an open mind examine the scriptures to prove whether the exact date of Jesus’ birth is hidden or unknown as commonly assumed. Here are seven points to prove that the date of Jesus’ birth is not hidden or unknown:

1.   1. The Prophecy of the prophet Isaiah

The Prophet Isaiah prophesied the coming of Jesus Christ and stated it as follows; “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end, Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this” (Isaiah 9:6-7).

The main focus of this passage of scripture is that of the kingship of this Child which began from the day of His birth, the titles which He bear, the endless reign of His government and it is the zeal of the Lord of hosts that will perform everything. So, the focus here is all about Kingship.
